RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Bald
Knob is blessed with countless recreational opportunities.
The area has always been noted for its two rivers; White,
Little Red. Fifteen lakes offer excellent fishing opportunities.
The lakes are periodically stocked with walleye, black
bass, small mouth bass, striped bass, hybrid bass, crappie,
and catfish.
Fish
are plentiful in the 217-acre Bald Knob Lake, located
two miles north of the city, which was built in 1960.
Fishermen who like to catch bream as well as bass, crappie,
and catfish use the lake. Boating has some restrictions.
Large motors may be allowed in the lake, smaller motors
(10 hp or less) or preferred, as the lake is the source
of Bald Knob water. Commercial fishing is not permitted.
For more information on the lake, fishing, and boating,
you may contact Bald Knob Water Department Supervisor
David Padgett at (501) 724-3821.
The
Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area covers 16,000
acres and is located six miles southeast of Bald Knob
off U.S. Highway 64. It is extremly popular for both
hunting and fishing. In addition to this area's fifteen
lakes, there are two rivers and two bogs within a twelve
mile radius of Bald Knob; plus the famous lakes Greers
Ferry, Norfork and Bull Shoals are hardly a two hour
drive away, which provide excellent fishing and water
sport activities.
For those who enjoy hunting, quail, duck, turkey, and
deer are available in the area in the appropriate season.
White County also ranks near the middle in deer killed
for the state. It ranks third in the number of quail
killed.
The Bald Knob Country Club has a nine hole golf course that measures 3,135 yards par 36, tennis courts and swimming pool which is enjoyed by its members.
Bald Knob Strawberry HomeFest is an annual event. It
features competing for Mr. Bald Knob, musicals, antique
cars, a parade, Beauty Pageant, free children's games,
pie eating contest, crawfish eating contest, cake auction,
silent auction, strawberry auction, strawberry hall
of fame, street carnival and craft shows or sales.
Other recreational opportunities that are available
year round include fishing, hunting, golf, tennis, bowling,
and a new movie theater (at Searcy, 11 miles away) and
