These are: Arkansas State University of Beebe 22 miles away in Beebe; University of Central Arkansas, Central Baptist College and Hendrix University, all approximately 30 miles away in Conway; the University of Arkansas, Little Rock; approximately 55 miles away; and Harding University, Searcy, approximately 11 miles away, and Lyon College in Batesville.
BALD KNOB PUBLIC SCHOOL
The Bald Knob School District has been recognized by the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation and the Arkansas Department of Education as one of the state's leading school systems. Bald Knob School District was one of ten districts in the state recognized by the Rockefeller Foundation for their progressive efforts in moving beyond the barriers. The Arkansas Department of Education designated Bald Knob Elementary and Middle Schools as Diamond Schools. Only twelve schools state-wide received this high level designation for exceptional performance and energy level.
Our district covers 178 square miles, and with approximately 1300 students, ranks 84th in student population among 312 districts in Arkansas. While our local resource rate (community wealth) is in the lower 20% of districts in the state, our students are performing on average well above the national average on the nationally standardized Stanford Achievement Test.
We have an excellent and varied academic program that offers many concurrent college-credit classes while providing a strong vocational-technical program of studies.
Our Quiz Bowl teams are routinely one of the top teams in the state, placing first or second in AAA state competitions four of the past five years. FCCLA and FBLA have won district, state, and national awards.
Our senior high band has long been recognized state-wide for superior achievement in state contest and competition.
Football, basketball, and baseball athletic teams have won conference titles or runner-up status at both the junior high and senior high levels over the past four years.
We have had an English teacher, two science teachers, and most recently a math teacher recognized as an Arkansas Teacher of the Year finalist. A number of teachers serve on state-wide curriculum frameworks committees to assist in the development of curriculum for the entire state.
Students have the opportunity to experience a global education through access to the internet. Internet connections are available to teachers and students in every classroom. A media center lab and portable labs provide access for group instruction.
The Bald Knob Community gives excellent school support as represented by the fact that over the past forty years a millage increase has never been defeated in the polls. We are currently building a new senior high building which is scheduled for completion August 2003.
The school is a center, not only for learning, but for community service and cultural affairs. Truly, our school is a hub attempting to serve the educational, social, and personal needs of the community, pre-school to post-retirement.
2011- The school is building a new Middle School.
